Amer Fort
The most widely known fort in Jaipur is Amer Fort which is also one of the Hill Fort World Heritage Site as declared by UNESCO. Made from pink and yellow colored sandstone, the Amer Fort dominates the periphery of Jaipur from North. The fort dazzles in bright sunlight and attracts many a tourists. Amer Fort’s construction was commenced by Raja Man Singh I but it was completed by Sawai Jai Singh during the 18th century. Other than being a perfect combination of Rajput and Gujarati architectural designs, the fort is home to several amazing gardens, courtyards, palaces and temples. Some remarkable features of the Amer Fort are Sukh Niwas palace, Sheesh Mahal, Ganesh Pol, Man Mandir, Jai Mandir, Jaleb Chowk and the Sila Devi Temple.
One of the highlights of a visit to the stunning Amer Fort is the chance to ride an elephant up the hill to the main entrance. These wonderful animals are decorated with traditional painted patterns and effortlessly transport visitors up the steep slope to the fort. The Amer Fort elephant ride is a fantastic experience, but visitors must arrive early to guarantee a ride and expect to suffer from touts and haggling.
Hawa Mahal
The pride of the Pink
City, Hawa Mahal (the Palace of Winds) is an unordinary monument. This is a
five storied palace which is 15 meter high with 953 windows called
‘Jharokhas’. The construction of Hawa Mahal was done in order to enable the
ladies of royal household to watch the daily chores and other
programs taking place in the city through these windows which enable proper
passage of wind and thus remains cool. Built with red and pink sandstone it was
designed by Lal Chand Ustad who was a popular architect of the 18th century
during the rule of Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh.
City Palace
The City Palace was the
place where the royal family of Jaipur shifted from Amber after the shortage of
water in Amer region. This has been the residence of the family since then and
is one of the most attractive historical monuments in Jaipur. The City Palace
is a marvelous building made from pink and red sandstone. The City
Palace has several remarkable features and constructions incorporated in its
complex. There is a museum on the ground floor which has several original
manuscripts and royal costumes on display and decorated with alluring paintings
and frescos. The palace also has Chandra Mahal which is a seven-storied
building with different name given to each floor. The Jaipur City
Palace is an amazing blend of Mughal, European and Rajput architecture with
mirror and stone inlay works for decorations.
Nahargarh Fort
The Nahargarh Fort is
another fort outlining the periphery of Jaipur and is located over the
Aravali Hills. The fort wall meets the walls of Jaigarh Fort and together they
form the protection cover of Amer. It was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II
who was also the founder of Jaipur City. The fort name meaning ‘abode of
Tigers’; was also a hunting residence of the Jaipur
Maharajas. However another tale has that it has been named after
Nahar Singh Bhomia whose spirit was believed to abstain the construction of the
fort. Later a temple on his name was built and it was then that palaces were
constructed without disturbance in the fort. Visit this amazing fort to have

Jaigarh Fort
Jaigarh fort was built
in 1726 AD by Sawan Jai Singh II. Jaigarh Fort is located at a height of 500
feet above sea level and offers panoramic views of the surrounding. It houses
the world's largest cannon on the wheels called 'Jaivana Cannon'. There are
various other attractions within the fort like Laxmi Vilas, Lalit Mandir, Aram Mandir
and the Vilas Mandir.
Jaigarh Fort is made-up
of sandstones and is spread over an area of 3 km. Made with the purpose of
protecting Amer Fort, Jaigarh fort is considered as the strongest monument of
Jaipur. Also known by the name of 'Victory Fort', this place was considered as
a storehouse of all the war amours, cannons, arms and ammunitions. There is a
Persian style garden within the complex of the fort which is divided into 4
parts. The best part about the fort is its windows which are made of lattices.
These windows allow a complete view of the exteriors, but nothing can be
observed from the outside.
